An Answered Prayer
Many years ago, we started an orphanage in Haiti after a terrible earthquake that rocked the island nation. It was called “My Heart’s Home” because whenever I returned to the USA, a part of my heart stayed there with our children. We experienced a thriving ministry for three years. In the fourth year, however, we were betrayed by a team member. Despite huge efforts, we finally realized we would need to close the home. I was devastated. About that same time, my toddler grandson choked while eating and was placed upon life-support for a month. The warfare was REAL, friends. Because of this, I was unable to go with my husband as the children were relocated to another orphanage that provided even more for them than we could. I never got to say my good-bye or explain. The children who called me “Mama Grandma Carla” didn’t get to say good-bye to me, either. My heart grieved and I prayed that one day we would be reunited.
Two nights ago I received a friend request from one of the beautiful girls from the orphanage on my Facebook page. I eagerly responded! Yesterday I was able to do a video call with one of the girls I was closest to - a little girl who came to us so sick and malnourished all those years ago. Now she is a 20 year old amazing young woman, following Jesus! She translated so that I could talk to two of the other girls. One of these girls was a toddler when she came to My Heart’s Home, unable to walk. Her belly was bloated with malnutrition and she scooted on her bottom, dragging her legs. Before she left our home she had good health and was running! Now she’s glowing and her giggles filled my heart.
All these years I’ve kept a prayer declaration over my Haitian orphans - my Haitian grandchildren - that has been faithfully prayed. I never stopped loving them. My arms have ached for them. Ten years later, my prayers have been answered. I’ve seen them, heard them, and cannot stop thanking God. Sometimes we don’t understand the ways of God, my friends. Sometimes we must be patient while God works out the details to fulfill our requests. It’s worth the wait! For those of you who support My Heart’s Home in Haiti, know that not one dollar spent, not one effort was in vain. The children are well and following Jesus. Perhaps one day we can all be together again
